Aspiring parliamentarian for Mangochi East Abubakar Mbaya says time has come for constituents and Malawians in general to embrace development initiatives in areas of school, health facilities and better roads.

M’mbaya, who is contesting on the United Democratic Front (UDF) ticket, said this when he held his campaign rally at N’dinde ground on Sunday ahead of the May 20 May 20 Tripartite Elections.

“We will also allow district councils to have control of finances so that people get development projects they need at all times as opposed to the current system where money comes from Capital Hill. In fact, we are going to ensure that people have food in their homes throughout the year,” said Mbaya.

According to Mbaya, once voted into power under the UDF ticket, Idrisu-Katuli and Katuli-Namwera roads would be upgraded so that masses do not have difficulties when travelling during the rainy season.

“Not only that, we will also take it upon ourselves that the elderly and people with disabilities get an upkeep allowance on monthly basis so they buy what they need,” said M’mbaya.

He said he would work together with councillors from the constituency to ensure that people get development projects they need at the right time.

“Together with councillors, what I want is that people should have more modern boarding schools for both boys and girls and good health facilities in clinics. When we have better roads, it means people will transact business freely,” he said.

Mbaya said as the country is celebrating 20 years of multiparty democracy and 50 years of independence, there is need for people in Mangochi East and country at large to usher in power new blood.

“What I want is to represent people here with all my heart through development projects that benefits each one of us together with all the councillors,” he said.—Mana
